Dingbat Creation Process

Character: Rokuro-Kubi From the anime GeGeGe no Kitaro

This character has had many designs throughout the different adaptations of the source material

I decided to make my own design for the dingbat, and to do so I looked to the inspiration for the character

The character is heavily based on a mythical Japanese creature of the same name, usually depicted as a woman with traditional Japanese clothes, hair and makeup and a serpentine long neck

I took inspiration from the geisha look, the design elements I tried to emulate and simplify from reference images were:

-The japanese hairstyle of women

-The style of makeup

-The look of the kimono

-The neck

The final product ended up looking like this:
